According to http://lives.sourceforge.net:
What is LiVES ?
LiVES began in 2002 as the Linux Video Editing System. Since it now runs on more operating systems: LiVES is a Video Editing System. It is designed to be simple to use, yet powerful. It is small in size, yet it has many advanced features.
I've been tinkering with the idea (along with some good friends) of creating a linux-based webcast, and as such, I decided to give this program a shot. I packaged it for Foresight Linux, and it is available by the following command: "sudo conary update LiVES=jkeyes0.rpath.org@fl:2-devel".
If anyone knows of any decent tutorials, or other software that they prefer, add a comment here and I'll take a look. Thanks!
On a related topic, somehow I stumbled onto Felicia Day's Facebook page (I think I read something about her on Penny Arcade) which directed me to her web show, The Guild. 10 episodes at about 3-5 minutes apiece = not too much time invested to get caught up.
Anyway, just a minor update during my boredom at work.

Somehow in all the excitement about, well, nothing, I managed to forget that today, July 25th, 2008, is System Administrator Appreciation Day! Make sure to say "thanks" to your System Admin, because without them, most likely you couldn't do your job.
Browsing around on Digg.com today, I stumbled across this site:
As you know, I have a great interest in zombies, so I found this site very amusing. Of course it's just a joke site created by Mingle2.com, but still, it's a really funny concept. I just wish the search actually worked. Any time you hit the search button, it just refreshes the page, setting everything back to defaults.

As you may or may not have noticed, my Blogspot blog now has a new domain name. GoDaddy.com was running a promotion giving away domain names, so I registered a couple. The first one, http://www.jkeyes0.com, obviously points to this blog. http://www.jordankeyes.com is parked for the moment, while I try to figure out how to make it point here as well.
The third domain is, well, still a secret. I'll update with more details soon. :)

It's a little late to direct to it now, but if you haven't seen it yet, check out Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Neil Patrick Harris (NPH) plays the supervillain known as Dr. Horrible, who is attempting to become a member of the Evil League of Evil. Nathan Fillion, who plays Captain Hammer, is the do-gooder superhero who is constantly thwarting Dr. Horrible's plans. I won't spoil the rest, but needless to say, a video blog from a supervillain is incredibly amusing.
Sadly, the videos were only available up until this past Sunday (July 20th), but they can be purchased on iTunes for $4 (or $2 apiece for each of the 3 episodes).

I'm not familiar with the original comic series, but it looks like a new movie is being made around the graphic novel Watchmen. Here's the trailer from Traileraddict.com
No real plot is revealed, but it looks pretty sweet so far.
Update: It looks like more plot, and more information, is revealed at WatchmenMovie.com

As many of my friends know, the wife and I picked up iPhones in January of this year. Much to my dismay, Apple decided to reveal to the world the iPhone 3G at the Apple WWDC 2008. I thought about going ahead and selling my iPhone before July 11th, but when I saw all the wonderful new features of the iPhone, I had to say "blah". The only real updates in my opinion were the 3G network and GPS instead of cellular triangulation. Looking at the AT&T map of Kentucky, 3G is really only available in Louisville, Lexington, and Frankfort. Lucky for me, but generally when I'm in one of those 3 places, wifi is available. When 3G is available in the rest of Kentucky and most of the rest of the country (like Gatlinburg, TN, where my dad has a cabin), I'll consider a 3G phone.
With that in mind, the iPhone 2.0 software update was released on iTunes 7.7. I'm not sure exactly what day it came out, but I hooked my iPhone up to my work PC today and updated. Sadly, my jailbroken iPhone was no longer jailbroken/unlocked afterward, but that was to be expected. Looking back though, I can say it was a worthwhile upgrade. Included in this update is the iPhone App Store and a host of other, smaller updates. The first thing I did, of course, was browse through searching for free applications. I ended up downloading/installing 20 new apps. I'm sure I won't end up keeping half of them, but here they are:
AIM - AOL Instant Messenger client
Twitterific - Twitter client
Pownce - Pownce client
MySpace - MySpace client
ShoZu - Multiple site interface (flickr, Facebook, Blogger, Twitter, etc)
Google - Advanced Google searching / app interface
Save Benjis - Price comparison app
Dice Bag - Dice rolling application for D20-based games (like D&D)
TapTap - Rhythm-based game like Dance Dance Revolution
Truveo - Advanced video search engine
vSnax - Advanced video search engine
Movies.app - Movie showtime, ticket, trailer, maps info
BoxOffice - Movie showtimes and theatre info
Restaurants - Nutritional info for a lot of major fast food restaurants
WeightTrack - Keeps a history of weight gain / loss with goals, deadlines, etc
YPmobile - YellowPages mobile
Remote - Control iTunes playback from anywhere in the home
Shazam - Music tagging app
midomi - Looks up songs by singing, saying the song/artist name, capturing from the radio, or typing lyrics, artist name, song name, etc.
WeatherBug - Advanced weather app, includes radar and allows you to choose by the particular weather station at each location
I'll keep using it and see if I can come up with some more cool apps that are cheap/free. I read something about a monkeyball ripoff that's free. That's next on my list.
If you have an older iPhone, make sure you update it. It's definitely worthwhile!
